What is Google Sheets and why does it matter?

At its core, Google Sheets is a spreadsheet tool – similar to Microsoft Excel – but built entirely for the web and for collaboration. You can use it for everything from simple to-do lists to complex financial models. Because it lives in the cloud, your work is saved automatically to Google Drive every time you make a change. It’s worth noting that Google Sheets does have some limitations – very large datasets with hundreds of thousands of rows can experience performance slowdowns, and certain advanced Excel features (like complex macros or some specialized chart types) may not translate perfectly. But for the vast majority of data management, reporting, and collaboration tasks, it covers everything most teams need.
